Olaf Harder

Olaf Harder (born May 29, 1941 in Oberammergau ) was Rector of the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences, today HTWG Konstanz , from 1980 to 2006. At the time of his change of office, he was the longest-serving Rector in Germany.

Life

Harder was a member of the Science Council and on the board of the Rectors' Conference . He has also been a member of numerous structural commissions, advisory boards and international bodies. On his initiative, the Konstanz Technology Center was founded in 1985 and the International Lake Constance University (IBH) in 1999 . Under the aegis of Olaf Harder, the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences was named the best university in further education by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft in 2004, and in 2005 it received the Baden-Württemberg State Research Prize.

In 2001 Harder was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services to German universities. He made a particular contribution to the process of German unification with the establishment of universities of applied sciences in the new federal states.

Professor Olaf Harder retired on May 31, 2006. In 2006 he was awarded the Ring of Honor of the City of Konstanz and the Great Merit of the State of Vorarlberg, Austria. He was appointed honorary professor of the Moscow Energy Institute .

He is co-founder of the Swiss German University - Asia (SGU) .
