The Moscow Energy Institute ( Russian Московский Энергетический Институт ) is a technical university founded in Moscow in 1930 . Around 15,000 students are currently studying at it in the fields of energy technology , electrical engineering , communication technology and information technology .
history
The university was founded in 1930 from the Electrical Engineering Faculty of Moscow Technical University . The Economic Council of the Soviet Union wanted to bundle the competencies from the field of electrical engineering and train more engineers at the new university in order to meet the increasing demand of the industry for qualified specialists. In 1932 the institute was reclassified into six schools with different disciplines. In the following years, additional institutes were added to the university, covering new subject areas such as automation technology or information technology . In 2000 the institute received the status of a technical university.
