Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology was established as an independent faculty of RWTH Aachen University in 1961 , by separating the respective chairs and institutes from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering .
The tasks of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in research and teaching are carried out today (2015) by over 30 professorships. In the 2014/2015 winter semester, the faculty had over 4,000 students.
The faculty traditionally raises very large amounts of third-party funding ; in the years 2011 to 2013 she has z. B. receive the largest share of DFG funding nationwide in their field .
Focus of work
The institutes and chairs of the faculty form four main research areas:
- Energy and environment
- Micro- and nanoelectronics
- Information and communication technology
- biomedical technology
Equipment and cooperation
The faculty maintains an ISO class 5/6 clean room laboratory , which is also used by other areas of the university. Scientists also have access to the Ernst Ruska Center , which maintains high-resolution electron microscopes at RWTH Aachen University and at Forschungszentrum Jülich .
The faculty also works with the research center in Jülich within the framework of the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA).
There has been a close cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Technology since 2016 .
Degree programs and degrees
The following degrees can be obtained at the faculty:
The faculty offers both the standard courses in the field of electrical engineering and information technology as well as interdisciplinary courses ( industrial engineering and technical communication ; status: 2015). In addition to engineers, teachers are also trained for vocational colleges .
Due to the changes initiated by the Bologna Process , the degree of Diplom-Ingenieur (Dipl.-Ing.) Has not existed since around 2014.
