Karl-August Hempel

Karl-August Hempel (born March 8, 1930 in Gelsenkirchen ; † October 2, 2011 in Bühl (Baden) ) was a German physicist .

Karl-August Hempel studied physics in Münster and was at Heinz Bittel 1962 with the work soft Studies on the ferrimagnetic resonance in magnetically hard ferrites for Dr. rer. nat. PhD. With his diploma thesis in 1957 he developed the microwave apparatus and opened up the research area for the institute. In 1968 he completed his habilitation and held a teaching position in Münster. From 1970 he was visiting lecturer at RWTH Aachen. On August 10, 1970 he was appointed full professor for the chair “Materials in Electrical Engineering”. From 1972 to 1995 he headed the Institute for Materials in Electrical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University . From 1975 to 1977 he was Vice Rector.

Hempel was a member of the Presidium from 1986 to 1990 and from 1990 to 2004 he was the representative of the Presidium for the regional associations of the German University Association (DHV) .
