The Zevenheuvelenloop ( German  Siebenhügellauf ) is a people and road run in Nijmegen over a distance of 15 km, which has been taking place in November since 1984 and is one of the most important and most popular in the Netherlands . It is organized by a foundation, the Stichting Zevenheuvelenloop .

Founded in 1984 by the student sports club 't Haasje , it was held over 12 km in the first year. From 1985 the run had its current length and soon attracted top national runners. The start and finish in the first few years was on the campus of the University of Nijmegen . In 1992 a precisely measured route was introduced with a start and finish in the center of Nijmegen. The ChampionChip , which was developed in Nijmegen, was used here as the very first running event in 1993 .

In 1998 and 1999 the run took place in spring. In the first year after returning to the November date there was a free start for everyone, so that the number of participants almost doubled. In 2001 Felix Limo set a world record in the 15 km road race with 41:29 minutes . In the following year, the commitment of foreign top runners was waived once.

At the 25th anniversary in 2008, the total number of 25,000 finishers was exceeded. In 2009 Tirunesh Dibaba improved the women's world record by 27 seconds and celebrated a double victory with her husband Sileshi Sihine . Leonard Patrick Komon improved Felix Limo's world record to 41:13 minutes in 2010.

route

As the name "Seven Hill Run" suggests, the route is quite wavy. On the circuit, which leads through the districts of Heilig Landstichting and Berg en Dal in the neighboring municipality of Berg en Dal to the southeast of Nijmegen, a total of around 150 meters in altitude has to be overcome.
