Kamiel Maase (born October 20, 1971 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch long-distance runner .

In 1997 he set his first national record when he ran the 10,000 m in 27: 35.72 minutes. In 1999 he improved this mark to 27: 34.02 min. At the World Athletics Championships in Athens in 1997 , he finished eleventh over this distance and eighth at the 1999 World Championships in Seville.

Also in 1999 he finished eleventh in the Rotterdam Marathon in 2:10:09 h on his debut over this route. In the marathon of the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney he finished 13th. In the same year he set another national record over 5000 m (13: 14.13 min).

At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton he was tenth, and at the end of that year he was European runner-up in cross country . At the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 , he was fifth over 5000 m and ninth over 10,000 m. In the same year he improved the national records over these distances to the current marks of 13: 13.06 min and 27: 26.29 min.

His first national record in road running followed in 2003 : 30 km in 1:30:20 h. At the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis he finished eighth in the 10,000 m, and in the Amsterdam Marathon he improved Gerard Nijboer's 23-year-old Dutch record to 2:08:31 h in sixth place .

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he competed over 10,000 m and took 14th place. An injury prevented participation in the 2005 World Championships , but he was ninth at the 2006 European Championships marathon in Gothenburg.

In 2007 he set another national record in ninth place in the Amsterdam Marathon with 2:08:21 h, and in the marathon of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing he came in 39th place.

So far he has been national champion over 5000 m seven times, once in the half marathon , three times in the marathon and eight times in the cross-country run (as of early 2008).

Kamiel Maase is 1.90 m tall and weighs 70 kg. He graduated in microbiology at the University of Texas at Austin as a bachelor and one of biochemistry at the University of Leiden as a master from. He lives in Zeist and starts for the Leiden Atletiek association .
