Gerard Nijboer (born August 18, 1955 in Hasselt ) is a former Dutch long-distance runner . He won the silver medal in the marathon at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 and won the same distance at the European Championships in Athens in 1982 .

After a viral illness, Nijboer went into the Olympic race in Moscow weak. Nevertheless, he held his own in a five-man leading group until the end of the race. He had to let the defending champion Waldemar Cierpinski go. He was able to shake off the remaining runners in the top group, three Soviet athletes, at a refreshment station. At the finish, Nijboer was 17 seconds behind Cierpinski in second place.

He won the Amsterdam Marathon four times (1980, 1984, 1988 and 1989) . His Dutch record of 2:09:01 hours set there in 1980 was only improved by Kamiel Maase after more than 23 years .

Nijboer currently works as a long-distance trainer for the Royal Dutch Athletics Union (KNAU).
