Tadesse Abraham (born August 12, 1982 in Asmara , Eritrea ) is a Swiss long-distance runner of Eritrean origin who lives in Geneva and Uster and competes for the LC Uster . With his best time of 2:06:40 h at the Seoul International Marathon on March 20, 2016, he holds the Swiss record in the marathon .

Athletic career

After victories on the half marathon route of the Winterthur Marathon and the Lausanne Marathon in 2004, the Grand Prix of Bern in 2005 and the Hallwilerseelauf and the Corrida Bulloise in 2008, he had his international breakthrough in 2009: First, on April 4, he finished eleventh in the Berlin Half Marathon , and three weeks later he won the Zurich marathon in 2:10:09 h on his full-distance debut . A second place in the Gyeongju International Marathon in 2:11:11 h was followed by a victory at the Zurich New Year's Run at the end of the season .

In 2010 he finished third in the Lake Biwa Marathon .

In March 2013, he won the day's victory in the Swiss championship in the 10 km road race in Uster. He improved his personal best over this distance to 28:28 min. In April 2013 he won the Zurich Marathon for the second time with the fastest time ever run on Swiss soil over this distance.

Abraham was naturalized in Switzerland in June 2014 after living in the country for over ten years and having been married to a Swiss woman for over three years. He was able to take part in the European Championships in Zurich , where he finished 9th in the marathon in 2:15:05 h.

On March 20, 2016, he improved the Swiss record to 2:06:40 h in the Seoul International Marathon . He was only four seconds short of the European record. On July 10, 2016, he became European champion in the half marathon in Amsterdam with a time of 1:02:03 h . In November, the then 35-year-old finished fifth in the New York City Marathon after 2:12:01 h.

In 2018 he did not finish at the Biwa Lake Marathon. At the European Championships in Berlin Abraham came second behind the Belgian Koen Naert and won the silver medal. Six weeks later he won the Greifensee run for the fifth time .

At the Dubai Marathon 2019, he finished 10th in 2:09:50 hours. In June 2020, Tadesse Abraham was Swiss champion over 10,000 m in 29: 17.70 min.

He is 1.78 m tall and weighs 61 kg.
