Grand Prix of Bern

The Grand Prix of Bern is one of the largest running events in Switzerland . It has been held annually in the city of Bern since 1982 . In 2020 the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
organization
The run covers a distance of 10 miles (16.093 km) and is quite challenging due to its elevation profile. It leads through the old town of Bern , where thousands of spectators loudly cheer on the runners.
The program also includes the Old Town Grand Prix , a shorter route of 4.7 km (since 1991) - also for walkers - and the Bear Grand Prix , a school route of 1.6 km for children and young people (since 1994) . In 2016, a run in the “Special Olympics Unified” category took place for the first time for teams made up of people with and without disabilities.
At the first edition in 1982 there were 3,139 registrations and 2,861 finishers. The GP Bern was part of the Post-Cup from 2005 to 2010 . For the 36th edition on May 13, 2017, a total of 33,618 participants registered and 30,265 made it to the finish. In 2017, 64 people completed the run for the 36th time in a row. In 2011 there were 78 “Golden Runners”, 48 of them on the long distance.
The Grand Prix of Bern was last held on May 11, 2019. In 2020 it will not take place - it has been postponed to May 22, 2021.
