Shem Kororia

Shem Kororia (born September 25, 1972 ) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner . He achieved international success above all in cross-country running , on the 5000 m distance , in half marathons and marathons .

In 1994 and 1997 he and his team from Kenya were twice cross-country champions.

He celebrated his greatest success on the track at the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995 , when he won the bronze medal in the 5000 meter run in 13: 17.59 minutes. His best times over 5000 (13: 02.80 min) and 10,000 meters (27: 18.02 min) are from the same year .

In 1996 Kororia took part in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta for Kenya . In the 5000 meter run he reached 9th place with a time of 13: 14.63 minutes.

The following year, on October 4, 1997, he became the half marathon world champion in the Slovak city ​​of Košice, and with a time of 59:56 minutes, he was the third person to ever stay below the one-hour mark for the half marathon distance .

Then he tried his hand at running a marathon and took third place twice (1999 and 2000) in the New York City Marathon (the first time with his personal best of 2:09:32 h).
