Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor (born November 22, 1992 in Eldoret ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .
Career
At the 2011 Cross Country World Championships , Kamworor won the junior race. Shortly afterwards he won the Berlin half marathon . In autumn he triumphed in the Lille half marathon , served as a pacemaker for the later world record holder Patrick Makau Musyoki in the Berlin marathon and came second in the Delhi half marathon .
In 2012 Kamworor was fourth at the CPC Loop Den Haag and won the World 10K Bangalore . In his debut over the 42.195 km distance, he came third in the Berlin Marathon .
At the RAK Half Marathon 2013, Kamworor as the winner with a time of 58:54 minutes missed Musyoki's course record by just two seconds. A fourth place in the Rotterdam marathon was followed by a victory in the Bogotá half marathon . At the Berlin Marathon he was again third.
At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, he won the silver medal over 10,000 meters. In 2016 Kamworor became world champion in the half marathon. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he could not live up to expectations and only finished eleventh in the 10,000 meter run.
In 2017 he successfully defended his title at the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala . On November 5, 2017, Kamworor won the New York City Marathon in 2:10:53 h. In 2018 he won the Half Marathon World Championships in Valencia for the third time in a row.
The IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2019 , the 26-year-old in March occupied in Aarhus in third place and was vice-champion in the team standings. On September 15, he set a new world record over the half marathon distance at the Copenhagen half marathon with 58:01 minutes. In November he won the New York City Marathon for the second time after 2017 in 2:08:13 h .
