Jörg Peter (born October 23, 1955 in Dresden ) is a former German long-distance runner .

Career

Jörg Peter won bronze at the European Indoor Championships over 3000 meters in 1978. In 1980 he took for the GDR to the Olympic Games in Moscow in the 10,000-meter race in part, finishing in sixth place.

On February 14, 1988, he set a German record at the Tokyo International Men's Marathon with 2:08:47 h. It was only more than 27 years later that Arne Gabius undercut it at the German Marathon Championships on October 25, 2015 in Frankfurt with 2:08:33 h.

Jörg Peter started for SC Einheit Dresden until 1990 . He was GDR champion in the 5000-meter run in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980, in the 10,000-meter run in 1977 and in the 1985 marathon thanks to his victory at the Leipzig Marathon . In 1990 and 1991 he won the Hamburg Marathon .

Jörg Peter was trained by Günter Büttner , who also led Jürgen Haase , Frank Eisenberg and Gert Eisenberg to the top of the world.

Jörg Peter is a qualified mechanical engineer, lives in Nünchritz and has two children.
