Nünchritz was first mentioned in 1312 as Nucharicz . However, the area was already populated in the Stone Age (around 4000 BC), which archaeological finds prove. In historical times there was a wine-growing area and the Elbe also determined the development of the area. In the Middle Ages , the Hohe Straße (Salt Road) ran through the municipality. The Leipzig – Dresden railway line was built from 1839 and since 2003 Nünchritz has had its own stopping point with hourly connections to Riesa, Dresden and Leipzig.

Between 1900 and 1905 a plant of the chemical factory v. Heyden in Radebeul . Even today, the site is the location of a chemical factory in which siloxanes are produced. The plant, which has been part of Wacker Chemie at Friedrich-von-Heyden- Platz since October 1, 1998 , employs around 1,500 people (as of June 30, 2016), making it the largest industrial employer in the Meißen district. After the Reformation in 1546, the Secret Council of Elector Moritz von Sachsen , Simon Pistoris the Younger , bought the monastery and converted it into his residential palace.
