Wülknitz is a municipality in the district of Meißen in Saxony (Germany). The community is a member of the Röderaue-Wülknitz administrative community .

location
The community is located in the Großenhainer care in the Röderaue . The neighboring cities are the city of Großenhain (17 km), Gröditz (6 km) and Riesa (11 km).
Local division
The districts of Wülknitz, Heidehäuser , Lichtensee , Peritz , Streumen and Tiefenau belong to the community .
history
Wülknitz was first mentioned in 1262, Lichtensee in 1284, Tiefenau in 1013 and Peritz in 1266.
During the pleasure camp in Zeithain , which was organized by August the Strong , an opera house was built near Streumen.
On January 1, 1994 the current districts of Heidehäuser, Lichtensee, Peritz, Streumen, Tiefenau (since November 1, 1952 after incorporation a district of Lichtensee) and Wülknitz merged to form the current municipality of Wülknitz.
In December 2015, Saxony's first community wind turbine was put into operation in the municipality of Wülknitz. The cooperatively operated 3-megawatt system fed 883,000 kWh into the power grid in the first month of operation. The construction costs of around 5 million euros were raised by a specially founded energy cooperative with the help of a short-term bank loan and subordinated loans that the citizens involved granted by purchasing shares in the wind turbine.

Since the municipal council election on May 25, 2014 , the 12 seats of the municipal council have been distributed among the individual groups as follows:

traffic
The B 169 and the Riesa – Elsterwerda railway run through the community. The Elsterwerda-Grödel raft canal runs through the Streumen district of Wülknitz .
