Schönfeld is a municipality in Saxony in the northeast of the district of Meißen , directly on the Saxon- Brandenburg border and not far from the Königsbrücker Heide . It is the seat of the Schönfeld administrative association .
geography
The surrounding communities in the north are the communities Ortrand and Kroppen in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in the state of Brandenburg. In the northeast and east, the municipality of Thiendorf joins the municipality of Ebersbach in the south and the municipality of Lamperswalde in the district of Meißen in the east. The federal highway 98 connects the place Schönfeld in an easterly direction with the federal highway 13, which runs through the municipality area. The city of Großenhain is 25 kilometers west of Schönfeld.
The site was laid out on sediments from the Cold Age of the Saale with greywacke projections in a hollow in a creek that rises near Liega . The district of the place extends eastwards to the federal motorway 13. The Kienheide, an extensive forest area, extends south of the community.

history
It was first mentioned in a document in 1216. Tammo de Sconevelt is mentioned as a witness to the transfer of the village and the Zadel church by the Margrave Dietrich to the Altzella monastery .
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Liega was incorporated.

Since the municipal council election on May 25, 2014 , the 14 seats of the municipal council have been distributed among the individual groups as follows:

- Citizens' initiative “For our community” (BIG): 2 seats
- Voting Association Kraussnitz (WVK): 1 seat
religion
54% of the population are Lutherans, 2% Catholics. The churches in Schönfeld and Linz belong to the parish of Ponickau in the church district of Meißen-Großenhain of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony . The few Catholics are assigned to the Catholic parish of St. Katharina in Grossenhain , 15 km away .
