Pond on Ortrander Strasse

Böhla b. Ortrand is a district of Schönfeld in Saxony .

geography

Böhla is located in the northeast of the municipality of Schönfeld and east of Ortrand . The place is surrounded by several large ponds, some of which were artificially created for fish farming in the Middle Ages. Another larger pond area on the Böhlaer Flur, the Kieperteiche, is a natural and area monument and belongs to the Saxon State Forest Cosel. Various rare plant and animal species live in these ponds, including aquatic orchids. At the village pond itself, all the wild ducks in the area gather every winter. This is fed directly from 6 sources and does not freeze over even at the lowest temperatures. Thus, the duck-flooded pond is also a small attraction for winter hikers.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1291. The place was laid out as a lane village with manor , which suggests that German settlers were the founders. The place name, however, indicates a Slavic origin. The community had 315 inhabitants in 1950. On January 1, 1960, Böhla b. Ortrand to Kraußnitz incorporated and came so later (from 1996) with Kraußnitz to Schonfeld .

Attractions

Watermill

A water mill already existed in Böhla in the 13th century . This was completely destroyed in a fire in 1600. Only in 1721 there was a mill in the village again, which from 1861 together with a sawmill is owned by the Boeltzig family. A service operation consisting of a mill, bakery and sawmill was still located in the buildings today.

Landmarks

Since Böhla, like Kraussnitz , lies on the border with Brandenburg , there are many boundary stones of the former border between Saxony and Prussia in the area . Another cultural monument from the late Middle Ages, a sandstone atonement cross, can also be found on the road to Kraussnitz.
