history

The first documented mention of Wülknitz comes from the year 1149. At that time, the Nienburg monastery owned a hoof here that was donated by Emperor Otto II . The naming refers to today's Großwülknitz.

On July 1, 1950, the municipality of Wülknitz was re-formed through the merger of the previous municipalities Großwülknitz and Kleinwülknitz.

Großwülknitz

In 1274 a church was mentioned over which Count Siegfried I von Anhalt had the right of patronage. In the 14th century, at least 26 Hufen belonged to the village, as this number of Hufen had to pay taxes to the Magdeburg Dompropstei. In 1641, 494 thalers war damage was determined for the village, plus 822 thalers damage for the manor owners of Hanfftengel .

Kleinwülknitz

Church in Kleinwülknitz

The church in Kleinwülknitz was transformed from a daughter church of Großwülknitz into an independent parish church in 1318. In the 14th century, 31 Hufen had to pay taxes to the Magdeburg Dompropstei. In 1641, war damage was estimated at 1,625 or 1,925 talers for the von Rath noble family . In 1831 the previous church was demolished and a new one was built in 1833/34.

Culture and sights

Church in Großwülknitz

The church in Großwülknitz dates from the 12th century, making it the oldest church in the city of Köthen. The slide box organ was built by G. Pfanneberg in 1899 and restored in 2006. The tower clock dates from 1877 and was manufactured by JF Weule . The watch worked purely mechanically until the end of 2012. A defect brought the clock to a standstill, it is planned to provide the clock with an electric drive.

The church in Kleinwülknitz dates from the 19th century.

The Kulturscheune Wülknitz eV was founded in 2002 to promote cultural life . There is also the Wülknitz sports club Köthen 05 and the Wülknitz cultural club .
