Dohndorf is 8 km west of Köthen (Anhalt) and has been part of the city of Köthen (Anhalt) since January 1, 2004. The place name is German and means that it is the village of a man named Dodo. In the old writings the village is mentioned as Dodendrop or Dudindorff. Mayor of the place is Uwe Wittmann.

geography

The village of Dohndorf is in the direction of Könnern on the state road L 148. The next connection to the A 14 motorway is at the Könnern driveway in the direction of Magdeburg or Halle.

General

The 19th century Dohndorf was a community that was strongly influenced by agriculture and cattle breeding. Once the village was divided into individual courtyards, remains can still be found scattered around the village.

In the east of the village there is also a larger urn cemetery with stone box graves from the early Iron Age (around 800 BC).

The "Horngraben" conservation area is located in Dohndorf. Numerous animals live alongside a variety of plants in the protected area.

history

The place was first mentioned in the fiefdom register of Prince Bernhard III von Anhalt as "Dodendrop" in 1300. It belonged to the Magdeburg Archbishopric in 1370 and was mentioned in a document in the "Codex Diplomaticus Anhaltinus" of 1392.

In 1516 the village was sold to the Lords of Schaderitz and remained in their possession until the noble family "derer von der Werder" bought the land in 1567. Several horsemen were killed in a battle in 1650 between Swedish troops and mutinous Germans who had previously fought under the Swedish flag. 12 of the fallen German horsemen are said to have been buried in Dohndorf.

1718 Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau becomes the owner of the office in Gröbzig and thus also of Dohndorf. The ducal domain Dohndorf was founded in 1727 by Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau. He added a new court to the so-called old court (local manor). This consisted of six earlier Anspännergüter.

The current church was built in 1882. Before that there was a small wooden church that was built in the 13th century. The estate was dissolved in 1922.

The LPG "Progress" Type I was formed in 1952. This was then converted into an LPG Type III in 1955 and in 1959 a large LPG was founded.

In 1978 the community association Gröbzig-Görzig was founded, to which Dohndorf also belonged. In 2004, Dohndorf was incorporated into the city of Köthen (Anhalt) .

buildings

church

The old village church rises up in the middle of the village. It is a simple, neo-Romanesque and listed brick building from 1884. The long sides are structured by large arched windows and the polygonal choir is emphasized by arched frieze and buttresses. The church tower rises up on the west side, starting with a stepped gable and ending with a short pointed helmet. The church has an open roof structure and was once given its organ by Rühlmann from Zörbig. Old stories say that American troops tore the pipes from the organ and went whistling through the village with them. Only the hollow body, a few pipes and the bellows are left.

The colorful light-flooded church windows on the altar are striking. Despite the desolate condition of the substance, the country church of the Wilhelminian era shaped the town and landscape. The heavy, old bells are rung by hand on traditional occasions. In the church garden belonging to the church there is also a war grave, and villagers who died for a while were buried here.
