Frank Terpe

Frank Terpe (born October 10, 1929 in Nünchritz ; † April 8, 2013 ) was a German mathematician and politician ( SPD ). He was a professor at the University of Greifswald . In 1990 he was Minister for Research and Technology in the GDR .

Life

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Riesa in 1948, Frank Terpe studied mathematics and physics in Greifswald. After completing his studies, he became an assistant, later senior assistant, at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald. In 1962 he received his doctorate with the thesis on the descriptive theory of integration . In 1967 he completed his habilitation. In 1969 he was appointed full professor of analysis. From 1971 to 1980 Terpe was director of the mathematics section at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University.

politics

In November 1989, Terpe joined the SDP (later the SPD). In February 1990 he was elected to the party executive committee. After the first free Volkskammer election in 1990 , he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR from March to October 1990 . Here he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group . On April 12, 1990 he was appointed Minister for Research and Technology of the GDR in the de Maizière government (successor to the previous Minister for Science and Technology Peter-Klaus Budig ). After de Maizière had dismissed the SPD Finance Minister Walter Romberg on August 16 , the other SPD ministers, including Terpe, resigned from their offices on August 20, 1990. He remained a professor in Greifswald until his retirement in 1993.

His son Harald Terpe was a member of the German Bundestag for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen from 2005 to 2017 .
