Location of Leckwitz in Saxony |
Leckwitz is a district of the municipality of Nünchritz in the district of Meißen in Saxony .
The village is located on State Road 88, the connecting road from Meißen to Riesa , directly on the Elbe at Elbe kilometer 100, 9 km west of Großenhain and 6 km south-east of Riesa.
history
The name Leckwitz is derived from the Old Slavic lech , which means something like bend (at the bend of the Elbe). The banks of the Elbe in the Leckwitz area have been inhabited since the Stone Age, which is proven by finds from the Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age and early Iron Age. The entire high bank in the Leckwitz area shows remnants of Slavic settlement. In Leckwitz there are remains of an old rampart, the Schanze (called Schwedenschanze), created by the Slavs in the 9th century. In the 9th and 10th centuries, the area around Leckwitz was certainly the center of one of the 14 districts (civates) that the Bavarian geographer lists for the Gau Daleminze. Leckwitz was first mentioned in the 13th century . The place consists of three different old parts.
The old place with the street name Dorfring was first mentioned in 1378. The place was an alley village with a corridor. A Vorwerk is mentioned in 1501. The district still consists of three and four-sided courtyards. The place belonged to the Hirschstein manor since 1551. From the replacement negotiations with the Lehnshof in 1844 it emerges that the village then comprised 3 two-hoofed estates, 2 single-hoofed estates, 1 quarter-hoofed estate, 2 gardeners and 1 cottage estate.
Kleinleckwitz (called Katzenjammer) on Schulweg, Schiffersteig and Elbweg is on the Elbe. In 1547 the rose mill was first mentioned as a water mill. In 1721 it had a grinder. It is located above the floodplain, where the Dorfbach flows into the Elbe. In the 18th century, the owner of the Rosenmühle was still a ship dealer and ferry leaseholder. Since at least 1650 a ferry connected Leckwitz with Boritz. There was a ferry house that was demolished in the 20th century. The residents of Kleinleckwitz were probably boatmen, fishermen and bomber. Below the Rosenmühle there are still parts of the original towpath on which the bomber pulled the ships. The rose mill, which was also called a cake mill by the boatmen because of the attached bakery, ceased operations in 1960.
The younger residential buildings around the Sandberg up to the Rosenmühle and across from the birch grove were built from 1904 onwards, as the place got new residents due to the labor requirements of the nearby chemical plant.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community Naundörfchen was incorporated into Leckwitz.
