Location of the community Ubstadt-Weiher in the district of Karlsruhe | ||
Ubstadt-Weiher ( municipality in the north of Baden-Württemberg near Bruchsal .
) is ageography
Geographical location
Ubstadt-Weiher is located on the border between the Rhine plain and Kraichgau in the north of the Karlsruhe district . The Kraichbach (also "the Kraich") flows through the municipality and takes in the Katzbach here . Shortly after the Katzbach confluence, a canal called Kriegbach is cut off from the Kraichbach in the Stettfeld district . The Weiher district is on the Rhine plain, the Zeutern district in Kraichgau, the Ubstadt and Stettfeld districts directly on the edge of the Kraichgau. Between the districts of Ubstadt, Stettfeld and Weiher lies the Bruch bei Stettfeld nature reserve , which is one of the few natural remains of the Kinzig-Murg Gully .
Neighboring communities
Neighboring are the municipalities of Bad Schönborn , Forst (Baden) , Hambrücken and the cities of Bruchsal, Kraichtal and Östringen .
Community structure
Ubstadt-Weiher consists of four districts (population in brackets from July 2015) with the associated small towns / places to live:
- Ubstadt (4417): Houses in the station settlement, Ubstadt-Weiher station
- Pond (3594)
- Stettfeld (2209): Courtyards of the Hardtsiedlung, industrial area Sand (directly adjacent to the pond)
- Zeutern (2964): House Gasthaus zur Waldmühle, Bösingen desert
A curiosity is the industrial area Sand created in 2007 in the district of Stettfeld, which, according to the signs, is part of the closed urban area of the district of Weiher due to its location directly adjacent to the district of Weiher.
climate
The climate is typically warm for the Rhine valley and the Karlsruhe region, viticulture is possible on the southern slopes of the Kraichgau foothills, and asparagus is grown in the Rhine valley.
history
Ubstadt pond
The area of Ubstadt-Weiher was evidently already settled in the younger Stone and Bronze Ages.
Ubstadt-Weiher was created as part of the Baden-Württemberg community reform as a union of the previously independent communities Weiher and Ubstadt on April 1, 1970. Stettfeld was incorporated on September 1, 1971 and Zeutern on January 1, 1972. Until 1973, the community (and before that the individual districts) belonged to the Bruchsal district , which then became part of the Karlsruhe district.
Stettfeld
The district of Stettfeld was built around 120 AD at the intersection of the important highways Basel – Mainz and Augsburg – Speyer, after the Rheintalstraße had been relocated a little eastward to the nearest flood-proof hills of the Kraichgau (“Strata Montana”, “Bergstraße”). However, the place was not mentioned by name at that time.
On a sand dune near today's Stettfeld, a large civilian brick and pottery specialized in bricks and pottery was built in the middle of the 2nd century on an area of five hectares , which archaeologists excavated on a large scale in the recent past . The bricks fired in Stettfeld are stamped LPL . Six sandstone boxes made of yellow Sulzfeld reed sandstone were found in this excavation field .
Stettfeld is mentioned for the first time after Roman times in 1241 , when Bishop Konrad V bought the goods of Rudolph von Kislau in the village for the Speyer monastery . Like the entire area, Stettfeld also came to the Grand Duchy of Baden through mediation due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 .
Ubstadt
As early as 769, Ubstadt was first mentioned as a Hubestat in the Lorsch Codex . Since the Middle Ages, the place belonged to the bishopric of Speyer before it fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1803. On June 23, 1849, following the lost battle near Waghäusel , Baden troops fought their Prussian pursuers a successful retreat here during the Baden Revolution . A memorial stone on the B 3 near Ubstadt commemorates the five fallen Prussian soldiers .
Pond
Weiher was first mentioned in the Lorsch Codex in 863. In the course of time the place came to the Lords of Kislau . At the end of the 13th century it came under the rule of the bishopric of Speyer before the mediatization led to membership of the Grand Duchy of Baden due to the Reichsdeputation Hauptschluss in 1803. Weiher is named after the Roman "villa" (country house) and with 3700 inhabitants it is the second largest district of Ubstadt-Weiher. The location in the Rhine valley gives the place a well-known asparagus.
Twitch
Zeutern was first mentioned in a document in 769/770 as Ziuterna in the Lorsch Codex. Initially owned by the Odenheim monastery, the place came to the Lords of Kislau in 1225 and to the Duchy of Speyer in 1241. The local noble family von Zeutern can also be traced back to the 13th century, Rainmar von Zweter may also be attributed to him.
In 1286, Zeutern received city rights through a document from King Rudolf von Habsburg . In this document of June 13, 1286, King Rudolf assured the Zeuterern protection and freedom. With this preferential treatment, the king hoped the energetic and hardworking population would develop their village into a bulwark against the many enemies of the empire. The old village center was previously only secured by a makeshift wall and a ditch. Zeutern, however, did not develop according to King Rudolf's ideas. Its location did not allow urban development and the village of Zeutern remained a village.
The place has been plagued by wars and epidemics over the course of its history. In 1734 a battle between the French and the Imperial took place on the outskirts. Viticulture has been documented in the village since 1150. The Waldmühle settlement, on the other hand, served local businesses early on. The Waghäusel sugar factory has settled here as part of industrialization. Today there is a metal goods factory here. The Katzbachbahn from Bruchsal has been connecting Zeutern to the railway network since 1896 .
Religions
Due to the fact that the area of today's municipality belongs to the Speyer monastery, the places remained untouched by the Reformation , so that the vast majority of the population still belongs to the Catholic Church and there is a Roman Catholic Church in each of the four districts . With the arrival of Protestants there is now also a Protestant congregation and a Seventh-day Adventist congregation in the Zeutern district .
Incorporations
- September 1, 1971: Stettfeld
- January 1, 1972: Zeutern

By choosing the wrong part of town , the districts are guaranteed a fixed number of seats: at least six members come from Ubstadt, at least five from Weiher, at least four from Zeutern and at least three members from Stettfeld.
The 2019 local elections led to the following result (in brackets: difference to 2014):

The project was discontinued in mid-2008 due to a lack of funding. The last show was broadcast from July 25th to August 2nd, 2008. The interest of the population was always present. Each program was almost always viewed over 600 times. All programs can still be viewed on kraichgau.tv.
