The Katzbach is a creek almost 18 kilometers long in the west of the Kraichgau , which flows into the Kraichbach from the right near Stettfeld (district of Ubstadt-Weiher ) .

course

The source of the Katzbach is located in the Great Forest around one kilometer southeast of the Eichelberg ( 327  m above sea level ) and one and a half kilometers west of Hilsbach , a formerly independent town that today belongs to Sinsheim . Western direction of flow-closing, the river leaves after about 400 meters the district of Hilsbach and the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis , crosses to about 300 meters, the area of the city Eppingen that the district Heilbronn heard and then reaches the district of Eichelsberg , a District of Östringen in the district of Karlsruhe .

In the Eichelberger district, the Katzbach soon leaves the closed forest area, which it has flowed through since its source, and turns to the southwest. The built-up area of Eichelberg is on the right slope of the valley. To the southeast of Eichelberg, the stream is crossed by an approximately 15-meter-high viaduct , which is part of the now disused part of the Katzbachbahn . Approximately from the viaduct, state road 552 follows the further course of the valley.

To the south of Eichelberg, the Katzbach flows through the Kreuzbergsee , a roughly 300-meter-long, almost 100-meter-wide artificial lake with an area of almost two hectares.

The Katzbach then flows through the center of Tiefenbach , another district of Östringen. At the height of Tiefenbach, the Katzbach valley is almost 100 meters deep.

Below Tiefenbach, the Hainbach flows into the Katzbach from the left and within a golf course . The Hainbach, which rises south of Elsenz, is shorter than the upper reaches of the Katzbach (4.1 to 5.7 kilometers), but has a slightly larger catchment area (6.4 to 6.0 square kilometers). The Katzbach takes up the west-north-west flow direction of the Hainbach, which it maintains until below Odenheim , also a district of Östringen.

On the eastern outskirts of Odenheim, the Kapellenbach flows from the right , a 4.5 kilometer long stream that arises west of Eichelberg and passes the former knight's monastery in Odenheim . The Katzbach flows through the center of Odenheim; on the right bank is the train station, which marks the current end of the Katzbachbahn, which is part of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn . On the western outskirts of Odenheim, the two kilometer long Elsbach flows from the right . Odenheim is one of several places that claim to be the scene of the murder of Siegfried, described in the Nibelungen saga. The associated Siegfriedbrunnen , which operated under the name Seesbrunnen in 1876 , is located around 400 meters to the right of the Elsbach on the state road from Odenheim to Östringen.

In the following section, flowing to the west, the brook passes the Katzbach flood retention basin, which is not permanently dammed, with a normal retention volume of 143,000 cubic meters.

The following two places on the Katzbach, Zeutern and Stettfeld , belong to the municipality of Ubstadt-Weiher . In Zeutern, the 2.5 kilometer long Besingbach flows from the right between two mill canals . In Stettfeld the Katzbach leaves the Kraichgau and enters the Upper Rhine Plain . After crossing under federal highway 3 and the Heidelberg – Karlsruhe railway line , the Katzbach flows into the Kraichbach from the right and south-east . A good 100 meters further downstream, the Kriegbach , a stream primarily used to relieve flooding , branches off from the Kraichbach.
