John Nzau Mwangangi (born November 1, 1990 in Mwingi ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Mwangangi grew up with three older siblings in the village of Mwingi and later moved to his uncle in Machakos . There he was discovered in 2006 by the Swiss athlete supervisor Peter Pfister, who brought him to Europe.

Mwangangi soon collected numerous victories in important road races , initially mainly in Switzerland. In 2008 he won the Greifensee run and the Murten run, among others . He was able to repeat both successes in 2009 and also win the Grand Prix of Bern and the Corrida Bulloise as well as the Route du Vin in Luxembourg. In the same year he finished second in the 5000 meter run at the Junior African Athletics Championships in Mauritius .

In 2010 Mwangangi was third in the CPC Loop Den Haag , second in the 10-kilometer run in the Tilburg Ten Miles and won the Dam tot Damloop and the 20 km from Paris . He celebrated his first title win at an international championship at the 2011 African Cross Country Championships in Cape Town. A second place in the Lisbon half marathon was followed by a victory in the Rabat half marathon. In the autumn he finished third in the Dam tot Damloop, defended his title in the 20 km of Paris and won the Valencia half marathon. In 2012 he finished second again in Lisbon. At the half marathon world championships in Kawarna , he finished third.

On November 15, 2015, he won the Valencia Marathon in 2:06:13 hours.
