African Cross Country Championships 2011
The 1st African Cross Country Championships were held on March 6, 2011 at the Western Province Cricket Club in Cape Town . The organizer was the Confédération Africaine d'Athlétisme . A forerunner event took place once in 1985 in Nairobi .
A total of four races took place during the event, one each for men and women as well as juniors (age group U20). The distances were 12 kilometers for the men, 8 kilometers for the women and juniors and 6 kilometers for the juniors. All medals went to Kenyan athletes. Kenyans even took six first places in the two junior races. Instead, the Kenyan Athletics Association sent its supposedly strongest athletes to the World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbría two weeks later . The highly valued Ethiopian team missed the competitions because the required entry visas could not be issued in time. A total of 128 athletes from 17 countries competed.
