Tilburg Ten Miles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tilburg Ten Miles are a people's and street run that has been held in Tilburg since 1993 and is one of the most important running events in the Netherlands . The distance for the men is 10 English miles (16.093 km) and that for the women, who start in a separate race called the Tilburg Ladies Run 10K , is 10 km. In 2009, the program was expanded to include a separate 10 km run for men.

history

The previous event was launched in 1988 under the name Moerenburgloop . The first edition was not designed as an official competition, and only the first 20 runners at the finish were registered. From 1988 to 1992 men and women ran 10 miles in a joint race.

In 1993 the race was moved to the center of Tilburg and was given its current name. A separate women's race over 10 km was organized. From 1995 to 1997 this was shortened to 5 miles; However, since the world best times run in 1996 and 1997 did not get any media attention, in 1998 they returned to the 10 km distance. In 2005, Haile Gebrselassie set a world best time over 10 miles.

In 2009, the Dutch championship in the 10 km road race was held as part of the event, which now consists of a people and road race over 10 km for men and women and a road run for men over 10 miles with an integrated fun run for both genders. Over 10 km, Peter Kamais Lotagor won the men's race with a world-class time of 27:09 minutes. Dutch champions were Martin Lauret as sixth overall in 28:54 minutes and Merel de Knegt as eleventh overall in 34:01.
