10 mile run
The 10-mile race is a long-haul - road race over a distance of ten miles (16,1 kilometers ). It is a relatively common distance in countries that use the mile as a unit of measurement. It is roughly an intermediate distance between the 10-kilometer run and the half marathon (21.1 km). Because of the endurance required to run this distance, it attracts more experienced runners than shorter events and usually requires preparation time for initial attempts.
Because the event is measured in Imperial units, it is not officially recognized by the International Federation of Athletics Federations for championship competitions. Because of this, it is a distance that is mainly used in non-international, low-level road races. Races that attract athletes of international standard take place primarily in the United States and the United Kingdom . The longest running 10-mile competitions include the 10-mile road race in Thunder Bay (first started in 1910) and the Harold Webster Memorial 10 Mile (first started in 1920), both of which are held in the Canadian province of Ontario .
The world records of the Association of Road Racing Statisticians (ARRS) for this distance with separate evaluation for men and women is the time of Haile Gebrselassie with 44: 23.0 minutes on September 4, 2005 with the Tilburg Ten Miles and Teyba Erkesso's time of 51: 43.4 , on April 1, 2007 at the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. The ARRS only recognizes performances in the specified distance, but not intermediate times. Several women ran the 10 miles in faster times in a half marathon. This includes Mary Keitany with a time of 50:05 minutes.
