Paul Koech
Paul Koech (born June 25, 1969 - September 3, 2018 ) was a Kenyan long-distance runner .
He won the 1996 African Athletics Championships in Yaoundé in the 5000 meter run . At the World Athletics Championships in Athens in 1997 , he finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run . In the same year he set his best times over 3000 (7: 33.79 min), 5000 (12: 56.29 min) and 10,000 meters (26: 36.26 min).
In 1998 he won silver at the World Cross Country Championships and with a time of 1:00:01 h the title at the World Half Marathon Championships .
In 1999 and 2000 he was sixth at the World Cross Country Championships. However, a knee injury prevented participation in the Olympic Games in Sydney .
In 2003 he reported back with a fifth place at the World Cross Country Championships. Under his new coach Dieter Hogen he specialized in the marathon , and on his debut he finished second in the 2003 Chicago Marathon in 2:07:07 h. In 2004 he finished tenth in the same place.
Paul Koech was the uncle of the successful runners Sally and Florence Barsosio .
