Eric Nystrom (* 14. February 1983 in Syosset , New York ) is a retired American ice hockey player , who during his playing career 1999-2016 among other 607 games for the Calgary Flames , Minnesota Wild , Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League on the position of the left winger . His father, Bob, was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Eric Nystrom began his career as a hockey player in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he was active in the United States Hockey League in the 2000/01 season . The attacker then played for the University of Michigan team for four years . During this time he was selected in the first round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft as the tenth player overall by the Calgary Flames , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2005/06 season . The rest of the season he spent, however, with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights , while he was only able to play a total of 17 games in the AHL for Omaha in the following season due to a shoulder injury. From the 2007/08 season , in which he also played for the AHL team Quad City Flames , Nystrom was a regular in the NHL team Calgarys. In early July 2010, he signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Wild , where he was a regular in the 2010/11 season . On October 12, 2011, he was transferred to the Dallas Stars .
In July 2013, Nystrom signed a four-year deal worth $ 10 million with the Nashville Predators . The last year of his contract, however, was paid out by the Predators in June 2016 (buy-out), after which he announced the official end of his NHL career in October 2016 and joined the Norwegian club Stavanger Oilers . With the Oilers he became Norwegian champion in the 2016/17 season .
International
For the USA , Nystrom took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2001 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2002 and 2003 . In the senior sector, he only took part in the 2010 World Cup in Germany .
