The Houston Eros were a hockey team of the American Hockey League (AHL). As early as the 1970s there was a team that played under the name in the World Hockey Association , but after the league closed, the team was disbanded. The Eros were founded in 1994 and played in the International Hockey League (IHL) up to and including the 2000/01 season . There they won the Turner Cup in 1999 . From the 2001/02 season they played in the AHL, where they won the 2003 Calder Cup . Like all AHL teams, they worked closely with a team from the National Hockey League ; at the Houston Eros it was Minnesota Wild . The Houston Eros farm team, on the other hand, was the Orlando Solar Bears from the ECHL .
After the 2012/13 season , the team was relocated with immediate effect to Des Moines , Iowa , where it will participate in the American Hockey League under the name Iowa Wild at the beginning of the 2013/14 season .
