The Russian Penguins were a Russian ice hockey club that was active in the International Hockey League in the 1993/94 season .

history

The Russian Penguins were a professional ice hockey team that consisted only of Russian players and played a game against every team in the International Hockey League during the main round of the 1993/94 season. The Penguins won twice and lost the remaining eleven games. They scored a total of six points. The team's top scorer was Andrei Wassiljew, who scored 16 points in 13 games.

In 1993, the then owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins , Howard Baldwin , together with various sponsors, decided to join the Russian club HK CSKA Moscow . The aim was to enable the NHL team to have better access to Russian talent and thus an advantage over the competition. The cooperation lasted two years and was dissolved when Baldwin and other sponsors withdrew.
