The Columbus Golden Seals were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Columbus , Ohio .

history

The California Golden Seals bought before the 1971-72 season, the inactive franchise of Columbus Checkers from the International Hockey League as their new farm team and renamed it in Columbus Golden Seals. In the two seasons of their existence from 1971 to 1973, the Golden Seals were fourth and thus last in the South Division, so that they missed the playoffs for the Turner Cup . Due to the sporting failure, those responsible sold the franchise, which in the following years participated in the IHL's gaming operations under the name Columbus Owls .
