The Louisville Shooting Stars were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Louisville , Kentucky . The shooting stars' venue was Louisville Gardens .

history

The Louisville Shooting Stars was founded in 1953 as a franchise of the International Hockey League . In their first and only season, the Shooting Stars reached eighth and penultimate place in the IHL in the 1953/54 season. In 64 games, the team reached only 40 points, which means that they were already eighth place, where the Grand Rapids Rockets were, 21 points short. Only the Milwaukee Chiefs were even more unsuccessful with 29 points. Because of this, the franchise was dissolved after just one year. The loophole this left in the city was closed by the Louisville Rebels , who played in the IHL from 1957 to 1960 and were the only team from Kentucky to win the Turner Cup in the 1958/59 season.
