The Peoria Rivermen were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Peoria , Illinois . Their home ground was the Carver Arena .

history

The Peoria Rivermen continued the game operation of the Peoria Prancers in the IHL in 1984 . In the first season after the renaming, the season 1984/85 , the Rivermen won the play-off final and thus the Turner Cup , the championship of the IHL. After the club could not reach the play-offs once in the following years and failed three times in the first round, the Rivermen were able to win the Turner Cup again in the 1990/91 season . In the play-off final, the Rivermen defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 4-2 wins. This success was not repeated until 1996.

After the 1995/96 season , which the Rivermen finished with third place in the Midwest Division of the IHL, the team was relocated to San Antonio , Texas and from then on took part in the IHL's game operations under the name of San Antonio Dragons . The tradition of the Peoria Rivermen was finally continued in the same year by a team of the same name from the East Coast Hockey League .
