history

The club was founded in 1945 as a franchise of the International Hockey League , of which they were one of four founding members. In their very first season, the team from the Autostadt Detroit was able to reach the final of the Turner Cup for the first time , but in which they lost 2-1 to their city rivals, the Detroit Auto Club , in the best-of-three series. Also in the following year, the Goodyears reached the final series, in which they lost 3-0 to the Windsor Spitfires .
