history
Saginaw Gears was founded in 1972 as a franchise of the International Hockey League. After the Gears had not yet reached the play-offs in their first season, the team was in the play-off finals in the following two years. The Gears won the Turner Cup , the championship of the IHL, for the first time in the 1976/77 season. After the team was in first place in the table after the main round with 91 points and thus won the Fred A. Huber Trophy , they later reached the play-off final, where the Gears were also victorious. The Saginaw Gears won the double in the 1976/77 season . In addition to the main round victory, they could also win the Turner Cup.
It was not until the 1980/81 season that the Gears were back in the play-off final, which they won 4-0 against the Kalamazoo Wings . This was followed by another finals in the following year, before the Saginaw Gears disbanded in the summer of 1983.
