Robert Glenn "Bob" Froese (born June 30, 1958 in St. Catharines , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League from 1982 to 1990 .

Career

During his junior years he played in his hometown with the St. Catharines Black Hawks in the OMJHL . After a change within the league, he played with Mike Gartner at the Niagara Falls Flyers . In the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft , the St. Louis Blues selected him in the tenth round as 160th.

He began his senior career in the IHL with Saginaw Gears . The Milwaukee Admirals followed as further stations in the IHL and later the Maine Mariners in the AHL .

In 1981 he signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers and in the 1982/83 season he fought his way to the place behind Pelle Lindbergh . When he had a fatal accident at the beginning of the 1985/86 season , Froese took over his job. He prevailed even though they had brought in another experienced goalkeeper in Glenn Resch . Together with Darren Jensen , he won the William M. Jennings Trophy . When the Flyers performed poorly in the playoffs a year later, he was one of the players Mike Keenan blamed for it.

Shortly after the start of the 1986/87 season , he was given to the New York Rangers . In return, the Flyers received Kjell Samuelsson . After early elimination in the playoffs, he took part with the Canadian national team in the 1987 Ice Hockey World Championship . In the Rangers he was number two behind John Vanbiesbrouck . After Mike Richter contested this place in the 1989/90 season , he ended his career.

In the 1995/96 season he was the goalkeeping coach of the New York Islanders . Today he is a pastor at the Faith Fellowship Church in Clarence , New York .
