Denis Bernard Herron (born June 18, 1952 in Chambly , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the Pittsburgh Penguins , Kansas City Scouts and Montréal Canadiens in the National Hockey League from 1972 to 1985 .

Career

As a junior he played with the Trois-Rivières Draveurs in the QMJHL . In the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft , he was selected in the third round in a total of 40th position by the Pittsburgh Penguins .

In the 1972/73 season he was appointed to the Penguins in the NHL squad after a few games with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League and prevailed behind Jim Rutherford as number two. The following year, Andy Brown , the last goalkeeper to play without a mask, took over the position of goalkeeper and Herron's Ice Age was little.

After three missions in the 1974/75 season , the Penguins signed Michel Plasse and handed him over to the Kansas City Scouts . In the 1975/76 season he prevailed as number one in the scouts' goal. After that season he returned to Pittsburgh. He managed to become a regular goalkeeper there in his second year.

For the 1979/80 season Herron was in the gate of the Montreal Canadiens . Even if the former Stanley Cup series winner could not prevail against the New York Islanders during this time , Herron and his partners won the Vezina Trophy in 1981 and the William M. Jennings Trophy in 1982 .

For the 1982/83 season he returned again to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Draft right, which the Canadiens received in return, they later gave to the St. Louis Blues , who thus selected Nelson Emerson . In Pittsburgh he played as a goalkeeper until the 1984/85 season, when Mario Lemieux made his debut there . After three games in the following season, he ended his career.
