Francis Charles "Frank" Brimsek (born September 26, 1913 in Eveleth , Minnesota , † November 11, 1998 ) was an American ice hockey goalkeeper who played from 1938 to 1950 for the Boston Bruins and Chicago Black Hawks in the National Hockey League .

Career

When Brimsek played in the squad in 1938, the audience were very skeptical, but twelve wins (including six shutouts) in his first 15 games silenced his critics. He was nicknamed "Mr. Zero ”, alluding to the 40 shutouts in his career, and was one of the most successful American ice hockey players. He helped the Bruins win two Stanley Cups in 1939 and 1941 . During World War II he paused to do his military service. He returned to the NHL, but could no longer build on previous performances.

In 1966 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame and 1973 with induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame .
