Remparts d'Avallon
Remparts d'Avallon is the name of the medieval city wall of the French city Avallon in the Yonne department of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region .
The fortifications were mainly built in the 12th and 13th centuries and made the city, which is located on a steep rock plateau above the river Cousin , almost impregnable. Numerous towers, five of which are still completely intact, once defended the city. Including the Tour de l'Horloge , which contains a clock from the 15th century. Although the walls were damaged several times and even partially razed in the 17th century , they are still characteristic of the city of Avallon.
