David Michael "Dave" Keon (born March 22, 1940 in Noranda , Québec ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played in the course of his active career between 1957 and 1982, among other things, 1392 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Hartford Whalers in the National Hockey League and 342 others for the Minnesota Fighting Saints , Indianapolis Racers and New England Whalers in the World Hockey Association on the position of the center . Keon, who spent most of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, is one of the defining players in the franchise and won the Stanley Cup with him four times between 1962 and 1967 . In addition, he has received numerous individual awards and prizes in both the NHL and WHA, culminating in his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.
Career
Dave Keon was one of the best defensive strikers in the NHL. In almost every game he was assigned to the opposing top center and made life difficult for them, but still he scored 396 goals. He was extraordinarily fair. With an average of 117 penalty minutes, he only had to go to the penalty box every 22nd game. For this he was honored twice with the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy . In 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1967 he won the Stanley Cup with the Maple Leafs . In 1975 he moved to the WHA and landed there at his third station with the New England Whalers . After these were accepted as Hartford Whalers in the NHL, he made his comeback in the NHL. At the age of 42, he ended his playing career in 1982.
In 1986 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
