history

The Toronto St. Michael's Majors were founded in 1906 as the junior team of the Ontario Hockey Association and played as a team of St. Michael's College until 1962 . The team achieved their first success in 1910 when they won the Allan Cup . In the 1930 and 1940s, the majors were among the best Canadian junior teams and won the J. Ross Robertson Cup five times (including three consecutive times from 1945 to 1947) and three times in the Memorial Cup , which is the highest title for the Canadian Junior teams is. Although the majors succeeded in 1961 again the double from J. Ross Robertson and Memorial Cup win, the college decided to stop the game operation, because one due to the increasing professionalism and an adjustment of the Ontario Hockey Association to the national Hockey League saw the school's interests no longer being safeguarded.

On August 15, 1996, St. Michael's College again received a franchise for the Ontario Hockey League . The team was initially owned by the school, but was later sold to Canadian businessman Eugene Melnyk , who first bought the Mississauga IceDogs in 2006 , but sold them again after just one year. He then moved the Toronto St. Michael's Majors to Mississauga , where they were active as Mississauga St. Michael's Majors until the end of the 2011/12 OHL season .
