Gay mothers without nerves (original title: Reinas , English: Queens , literally: 'Queens') is a Spanish comedy from 2005 by director Manuel Gómez Pereira .

action

The three mothers Reyes, Nuria and Magda have one thing in common: their three gay sons want to say yes to their respective life partners at a mass wedding as part of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Spain. Reyes disapproves of the fact that her son Rafa is gay and wants to marry the paramedic Jonás, the son of her gardener Jacinto.

Nuria, a nymphomaniac, hooks up with men everywhere and in the most inopportune moments and inevitably also sleeps with her future son-in-law Hugo. Magda owns a hotel for homosexuals (which will also be used for the wedding ceremony). Her son Miguel wants to marry his great love Óscar there. When the underpaid kitchen staff go on strike, the mass wedding threatens to fall through, even though Magda goes to bed with the Cuban chef César.

Only when the mothers band together to host the celebration themselves can they save the mass gay wedding.

Reviews

"Amusing, peppy gender comedy, which not only reveals itself to be an homage to Pedro Almodóvar through its subject and staging , but also through the cast, which after all has three muses of the Spanish master director in the leading roles."
