The Dukes of Hamilton were a Canadian ice hockey team from Hamilton , Ontario . The team played from 1989 to 1991 in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
history
The Toronto Marlboros were relocated to Hamilton Hamilton , Ontario in 1989 and renamed the Dukes of Hamilton. The name was chosen because the previous team was nicknamed the Duke of Marlborough . In their first season, the Dukes achieved just eleven wins in 66 games and scored a total of 28 points, whereupon they denied the opportunity to host the Memorial Cup , whereupon the OHL finalist Kitchener Rangers stepped in for the team from Hamilton. The team was able to increase to 17 wins and 40 points in the 1990/91 season, but the franchise was relocated to Guelph , Ontario, after the season , where it has since been active in the OHL under the name Guelph Storm .
