Andy Guhl

Andy Guhl (born March 18, 1952 in Steckborn ) is a Swiss improvisation musician , sound artist and architect .

As a teenager, Guhl played the double bass and percussion. At the age of 15 he turned to electronics and experimented which sounds were created with low current and soldering technology. At the age of 17 he received classical double bass lessons. He played in a duo, initially with friends, before forming small improvisational ensembles with Gieri Battaglia, Norbert Möslang , Herbi and Bernhard Leuthold from 1972 . The formation Möslang / Guhl first appeared at amateur festivals and took part in the freemusic festival of Free Music Production in Berlin in 1977 , where the LP "Deep Voices" was recorded (in 1984 the duo became Voice Crack , also developed sound installations and existed until the end of 2002 , partly expanded to include musicians such as Stephan Wittwer , Carlos Zingaro or Günter Müller ). Guhl, founding member of the Musikerkooperative Schweiz, continued to play with Peter K. Frey , Alfred Zimmerlin , Jürg Gasser, Irène Schweizer , Markus Eichenberger, Jürg Hager, Urs Voerkel and Butch Morris . With Charlotte Hug he forms the duo Quasar . In other musical and multimedia projects he worked with Frederick Quennoz and Otomo Yoshihide .
