Günter Müller (improvisation musician)

Günter Müller (born October 20, 1954 in Munich ) is a German improvisation musician and teacher of fine arts and graphic design.

Müller, who has lived in Switzerland since 1956, learned to play the drums as an autodidact . Since 1981 he combined it with a mobile pickup and microphone system and electronics. Minidisc and iPod have been added since 1998 . Müller mostly played in a duo and trio with different musicians from the improvisation scene, such as Jim O'Rourke , George Lewis , Christian Marclay , Lê Quan Ninh , Keith Rowe , Carlos Zingaro , Michel Doneda , Urs Leimgruber , Gastr Del Sol , Otomo Yoshihide and Alfred Harth , but has also toured with groups like the Blauer Hirsch ( Werner Lüdi , Wädi Gysi , Mich Gerber ) and also played in larger collectives ( Butch Morris ). He is a founding member of the trio Nachtluft (with Andres Bosshard and Jacques Widmer), which created sound installations , and of the electronic quartet poire_z with Norbert Möslang , Andy Guhl and eRikm . He also performs as a soloist. He has given concerts in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

In 1990 Müller founded his own label For 4 Ears . He has also recorded albums for Erstwhile , Cut , Grob , Audiosphere and other labels.
