Music projects

Andres Bosshard began with sound expeditions to explore the sounding environment in all its possible spatial depths and subsequently produced several extensive media projects, some of which were networked worldwide.

  • Dam in Fusio 1987 in the canton of Ticino : The dam was transformed into a gigantic sound reflector by precisely positioned small loudspeakers.
  • Klangbrücke 1990 in Bern: a multi-channel live connection between the Kunsthalle Bern and the railway bridge on the Lorraine

Sound architectures

In cooperation with architects and landscape planners, several constantly operated sound architectures were created. Andres Bosshard has also been conducting sound research in urban outdoor spaces in a growing network of sound gardens since 2000. Since 2005, regular orders from the Federal Office for the Environment (Bafu) in Bern, the Canton of Zurich, the City of Zurich and the City of Basel in cooperation with Trond Maag urbanIdentity. 2016 KTI research assignment in collaboration with CCCT, at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences, Technology and Architecture.

  • Agora 2000, external expo project in the Goitzsche near Bitterfeld: sound land art sculpture as an amphitheater for 1500 people.
  • Klangallee 2000, external expo project in the main avenue of Bad Pyrmont. Permanent sound and light staging in urban space.
  • Sound fountain 2001, Gutstrasse Galaxy Zurich: interactive fountain to sensitize the acoustic perception of space for a school building.
  • Giardino Sonoro La Limonaia dell 'imperialino Firenze 2003-2005, permanent sound garden in the city of Florence: master gardener Stefano Passerotti, Lorenzo Brusci and Andres Bosshard are the founders of the GSLI team that developed international sound garden projects.

  • Donnerbogen and Whisper Dome 2013 Sound space production of the Wilhelmsburger Brücke in Hamburg for the IBA Hamburg.

Sound tower

In Bosshard's “sound towers”, impulses from the environment are picked up, processed live electronically and radially emitted again.

  • 1997: Klangturm St. Pölten : Media architecture for the Klangturm St. Pölten . The sound installations were dismantled in 2013, the tower itself remained as a lookout tower.
  • 2002: Sound tower for the Expo.02 in Biel

World New Music Festival Stuttgart 2006

During the World New Music Festival 2006 in Stuttgart, the observation tower in the Höhenpark Killesberg was redesigned into a sound tower by Andres Bosshard in collaboration with Lorenzo Brusci. Six international artists had developed sound art works for the Killesberg Park. They highlighted special places in the park, told its history and presented the tonal possibilities of new music. The installations invited people to listen and see, to touch and try out.

Instruments

Andres Bosshard develops and builds his own live electronic instruments and loudspeakers to navigate the sounds in space .

  • Cassette machinery 1976–2000: original sampler for 12 cassette tape recorders
  • Bosshard-Plexi 1987: kite-shaped Plexiglas loudspeaker, ideal for floating suspension in the outdoor area.
  • Matrixmixer 1991: Plexiglas mixer for manual movement of sounds in the room
  • Rotobossophon 1999: one-armed slingshot for multi-channel swirling of sounds
  • Sound balls 2000: weatherproof ceramic balls as ideal floor speakers outdoors. Small versions can be mounted hanging. The sound balls are characterized by a fine near field and very clear omnidirectional long-range effect.
  • sonoplanes 2010: Network-based interactive system for multiple sound architectures. Currently active sound architectures can be remotely controlled, maintained and curated as required. Particularly suitable for guest artists who can move freely in the sound heaven and at the same time realize their sound visions (Klanghimmelmq Vienna 2011). Software development in cooperation with the Zurich University of the Arts and Roman Häfeli, Zurich.
  • Klangkomet 2014: In collaboration with polyrolli, a polyhedron construction was created with three parabolic mirrors and five Bosshardplexi loudspeakers that can move and rotate vertically in space. It was specially designed for the acoustics of the marble dome of the Natural History Museum and was used there for the 2014 opening ceremony.
  • Phonurgonoiser 2016: Multi-channel double sound column made of various wooden resonance chambers and a rotatable parabolic mirror at the top, height 2m50.
  • Wind pillars 2016: For the sonicArk project in Aarhus, three 5 m high steel pillars with freely swiveling Bosshardplexi loudspeakers and self-designed bass systems were created in a generously designed bench in collaboration with Jürgen Hankeln (blauwerk).

Teaching

Andres Bosshard teaches at various institutions, for example he was a visiting professor at the KHM Cologne in 2003. Since 2005 he has been a lecturer at the ZHdK Zurich University of the Arts .
