life and work

eRikm played in various French noise bands back in the 1980s and dedicated himself to street art . After working as a light and sound technician at the theater, at the age of 22 he had his first exhibition of light collages , which he underlined in another exhibition with music. After various projects and performances with other protagonists of Soundart his 1996 international breakthrough as an independent artist and sound art virtuoso and it succeeded. a. 1997 led to the Biennale of Young Art (Biennale Internazionale Arte Giovane) in Turin ( Italy ).

Numerous collaborations with well-known representatives of new and alternative music followed , including a. with Luc Ferrari , Christian Marclay , Otomo Yoshihide , Voice Crack and FM Einheit (known as a former member of the music group Einstürzende Neubauten ), as well as cross-genre compositions and installations for theater and contemporary dance, radio, festivals and art centers (including for the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London , the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music , the Liquid Architecture Festival in Sydney, the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona and the Cologne Philharmonic ).

Due to the numerous and very different influences that shaped his career, eRikm's music always moves between the poles of popular culture and avant-garde art, composition and improvisation. The synthesis of nature and technology plays a special role here. On the one hand by exhausting the possibilities of technical artifacts such as the turntable in interaction with the coloring of the human voice (see his work with the Belgian singer Catherine Jauniaux ), on the other hand in the form of recordings of natural sounds and technical noise and their recombination. This program also brought him into the focus of the sciences and promoted a collaboration with the French philosopher and former director of the IRCAM (Institute for Acoustics and Music Research), Bernard Stiegler .

Since the early 2000s, he has increasingly devoted himself to the visual arts (drawings, photography and sculpture) in order to combine them with his musical work and thus do justice to the vision of holistic art. In addition to his permanent work at La Friche de la Belle de Mai in Marseille , this work has been a.o. a. exhibited in the Kunsthalle St. Gallen , the Clover Hall of the Doshisha University Kyoto and the Manifestation Internationale d'Art in Québec (Canada).
