Stephan Wittwer
Stephan Wittwer (born March 1, 1953 in Zurich ) is a Swiss experimental musician , improviser and composer . At first his main instruments were electric and classical guitar, appliances, amplifiers and the recording studio, then mainly computers.
Live and act
Wittwer had piano lessons as a child and initially learned to play the guitar autodidactically . As a teenager he played with free jazz musicians such as John Tchicai and Irène Schweizer , worked with Anton Bruhin , Hans Reichel , Paul Lovens and soon with Radu Malfatti in the duo Malfatti-Wittwer . It wasn't until much later that he studied classical guitar. Noisy solo projects were the focus early on, but so was the networked electro-acoustic ensemble Polyphonie Zürich .
He was a member of Rüdiger Carl's C.OWWS quintet (with Phil Wachsmann , Barre Phillips , among others ), Werner Lüdis Sunnymoon (with Martin Schütz , Hans Koch, among others ) and Red Twist & Tuned Arrow (with Christy Doran and Fredy Studer ). In duos, trios and projects he played with Han Bennink , Donald Miller ( Borbetomagus ), Steve Lacy , Voice Crack , Pierre Favre , Dietmar Diesner , Alfred Harth , Paul Lytton, Butch Morris , Jim O'Rourke , Christian Marclay , John Zorn , Alex Buess ( 16-17 ), Anton Bruhin , Peter Brötzmann , William Parker , SLUDGE 3000 , Steamboat Switzerland and many others.
Werther / Wittwer was the name of his duo with Michael Wertmüller , SLUDGE 5-0 his instrumental rock group with Jim Meneses and Keith Macksoud.
His publication streams (GROB, Cologne 2001) received an Honorary Mention in the field of digital music at Ars Electronica .
He occasionally writes film music , among others for the artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss .
