Stephan Wittwer (born March 1, 1953 in Zurich ) is a Swiss experimental musician , improviser and composer . At first his main instruments were electric and classical guitar, appliances, amplifiers and the recording studio, then mainly computers.

In duos, trios and projects he played with Han Bennink , Donald Miller ( Borbetomagus ), Steve Lacy , Voice Crack , Pierre Favre , Dietmar Diesner , Alfred Harth , Paul Lytton, Butch Morris , Jim O'Rourke , Christian Marclay , John Zorn , Alex Buess ( 16-17 ), Anton Bruhin , Peter Brötzmann , William Parker , SLUDGE 3000 , Steamboat Switzerland and many others.

Werther / Wittwer was the name of his duo with Michael Wertmüller , SLUDGE 5-0 his instrumental rock group with Jim Meneses and Keith Macksoud.

His publication streams (GROB, Cologne 2001) received an Honorary Mention in the field of digital music at Ars Electronica .

He occasionally writes film music , among others for the artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss .
