The Kingston Raiders were a Canadian ice hockey team from Kingston , Ontario . The team played in the 1988/89 season in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

history

Before the 1988/89 season Lou Kazowski acquired the rights to the franchise of the Kingston Canadians from the Ontario Hockey League , which he then renamed the Kingston Raiders. For marketing reasons, Kazowski tried to give the team a tough appearance and therefore chose the name and jersey colors of the American football team of the Los Angeles Raiders from the NFL , which were considered a "tough" team at the time. In their first and only OHL season, the Kingston Raiders finished last in their division.

Kazowski decided after only a year to sell the franchise again due to disagreements with the OHL and the sporting failure. Among the members of the new investor group were Wren Blair and Bob Attersley, two former ice hockey players who had played together for the Kingston Frontenacs in the Eastern Professional Hockey League and who gave the OHL franchise the same name .
