history
The Mississauga IceDogs were founded in 1998 as a franchise of the Ontario Hockey League . After missing the playoffs in its first four seasons, it reached the playoffs for the first time in the 2002/03 season, where it lost 4-1 to the Ottawa 67’s in the Conference quarter-finals . In the following season, the IceDogs achieved their greatest success when they reached the final games of the J. Ross Robertson Cup after victories over the Oshawa Generals , Barrie Colts and Toronto St. Michael's Majors . In these they were subject to the Guelph Storm in the best-of-seven series in a sweep .
Although Mississauga received the Emms Trophy as the winner of the Central Division in the 2004/05 season , the team then did not get beyond the first play-off round. In 2007 the franchise was sold by Eugene Melnyk to Bill Burke, who relocated it to St. Catharines , Ontario , where it has since been active in the OHL under the name Niagara IceDogs .
